History
When Tsubaki and Kikyou were young children,
most likely the age of 9 or 8, they were summoned by a great priest to learn the art of slaying demons. Traditionally, the
priestesses in training would wear a full white kimono showing that they were learning to become a miko. One by one, the weaker
of the priestesses were picked off to see who would rule the temple after the great priest. In the beginning, two priestesses
instantly became friends, Kikyou and Tsubaki. Being the out cast with their silent words and expressionless faces. They were
bound as sisters who would learn together as they watched others fail.
Having a sister, or a partner, is crucial in training to
become a priestess because that is the one that decides if you win or fail. The other half, is your complete whole with powers
and the two bounce off the power with eachother.
Together, Kikyou and Tsubaki ,they succeeded
and assisted one another in tasks, such as, slaying demons, and concentrating with their power, that was until, Kikyou-sama
received the news that her parents were killed in a demon raid where she must go and raise her younger sister Kaede. Possibly
at the age of, 15 I'll say, she took in her younger sister as her own, leaving the temple and her dream of being the priestess
of the temple.
Possibly, out of anger, Tsubaki decided to erase
the memory of her best friend for leaving her, which Tsubaki believed that she should've stayed, since it was down to just
them two for the temple. But Kikyou chose her sister which caused Tsubaki to anger that her only family, the only one she
loved, turned her back on her. As they grew, Tsubaki wanted the chance to see if she could've beat Kikyou, and when she heard
that Kikyou-sama received the Shikon No Tama, this angered Tsubaki more as they began their feud of hatred towards one another,
and power.
Why I believe this is true-
Everyone knows that Tsubaki's priest, decided to give the
Shikon No Tama to Kikyou-sama. Would he really give that powerful jewel to someone he never knew?? NO! He obviously knew her,
most likely taught her the ways of a priestess. The clues are there, use your imagination. Plus, would he rely on simple rumors
that Kikyou had the ability to purify anything with a simple touch? No. Not with something as serious as this.
What You Probably Didn't Know:
-
Also, when you are accepted to learn to become
a priestess, you need to leave your family. Families cannot be with the priestess-to-be, so the family is to leave them
alone and move on, w/o their son or daughter. With no contacts to ruin the practice of the priest/esses.
-
The beads a miko has around her neck, also
says what you mainly study in. Tsubaki is a master of curses, so she contains teal beads. Kikyou is a healer, so she has woven
because of her closeness to nature.
